One FirstStop Login Against a $199 Renewal

The Dashboard Is the Product Worth Paying For

ZenBusiness has built the most polished software in this category, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Documents, filings, and compliance dates arrive in a single interface that a first-time owner can read without a manual. If your company holds registrations in several states and you want one screen showing all of them, that interface is a legitimate reason to pay a premium.

What we sell is deliberately smaller. A North Dakota address, a scanning desk behind it, one charge a year, nothing to learn.

Two Prices, and Only the Second One Repeats

Purchased on its own, detached from any formation order, ZenBusiness lists standalone registered agent service at $99 plus state fees during the first twelve months. From the second year forward the rate is $199. Both numbers are published and neither is misstated.

The complication is arithmetic rather than ethics. A registered agent is not a one-time purchase in North Dakota; the state wants a name on file for every year the entity survives, which means nearly all the money you will ever hand a provider is renewal money. Year one is a sample. Year four, year seven, and year ten each cost $199.

Run it out five years and the standalone ZenBusiness path totals $895. Five years here totals $495.

We are not going to call $99 the floor of this market. BetterLegal advertises $90 a year, which is genuinely less than what we charge, and you should hear it from us rather than from somebody else's comparison chart. The defensible claim is narrower: $99 sits toward the bottom of the published range for this state without occupying the very bottom of it, and it is still $99 at every renewal.

Leaving ZenBusiness: The Statement of Change

North Dakota keeps no downloadable agent-change form for you to find. What it keeps is FirstStop, an account-based filing system run by the Secretary of State, and the filing that replaces ZenBusiness is a guided workflow inside it rather than a document you print. Hunting for a form number is wasted effort, because the state assigns none.

The filing is called a statement of change, and § 10-01.1-08 of the Registered Agents Act is the provision letting an entity make one. The Secretary of State charges $10. The appointment moves the instant the statement is filed, so there is no processing queue to wait out and no vote of the members to hold first.

Steps, in the order that keeps you covered:

1. Enroll with us, so a North Dakota agent is standing by to be named.

3. Complete the statement of change, entering our name and North Dakota street address in the agent fields.
4. Pay the $10.
5. Confirm the public record shows us, then cancel the ZenBusiness renewal.

The statement provides a place to name an incoming agent and nowhere at all to record an absence. Hire the replacement first, name it in the filing, and the handoff happens in a single motion with nobody missing from the record in between. What Turns $199 Into a Choice

A $199 renewal survives on inertia. It assumes that replacing an agent is more trouble than paying the difference is worth.
